Steam Contest Time!

I’ve got a new Steam-powered contest happening!

Each and every Sunday for the next six weeks, I’ll be pulling a random name out of a hat. The winner will receive a brand spanking new shiny Steam key!

Now, how do you get your name in this hat? Simple! Sign up for my mailing list (I won’t bombard your inbox, believe me.). That’s all there is to it! No lengthy entry forms or anything like that! I’ll randomly choose a selection of names right from the mailing list.

What’s that? What games could you potentially win? I decided to go with some that I really enjoyed playing. Take a gander:

  • Week 1: Fallout: New Vegas (with all DLC)
  • Week 2: Kerbal Space Program
  • Week 3: Total War: Shogun 2 (with all DLC)
  • Week 4: Saints Row 4 (with all DLC)
  • Week 5: Elder Scrolls: Skyrim (with all DLC)
  • Week 6: Sid Meier’s Civilization V (with all DLC)

Good luck, everyone!

Stuff From My Folks’ Basement, Episode Four

Here it is, everyone.

The long overdue update on the migration of various crap from my folks’ basement to my place continues.

Backstory: When my wife and I got married and moved to our new place, I left behind a lot of stuff stored away in my parents’ basement. My wife was, for some odd reason, a little hesitant about having her semi-packrat husband bring all that stuff over to her nice, new clean basement. (Un?)Fortunately, my parents want their basement back. So, I’ve managed to sell her on the idea that this can be a fun series of blog posts for you guys and gals to enjoy. Wish me luck.

Main Course: Keeping this update to just books to avoid incurring the wrath of my wife right off the bat.

Let’s start off with a bang. Here we have an almost complete set of the original Dune series by the late, great Frank Herbert. If you’re a fan of sci-fi and haven’t read read these yet, I’m sure you’ll be in for a real treat when you decide to give them a shot. If you’ve been avoiding the series because of that David Lynch movie (which I  thought still had its charms), you’ve been doing yourself an injustice. Continue reading

Stuff From My Folks’ Basement, Episode Three

Hi, everyone. I’ve got another load of nerdy stuff from my folks’ place. Again, for those of you joining us for the first time, remember to take a look at the first and second parts of this sad saga to get caught up.

Main Course: Slightly more weird stuff and not too many books this time. Let’s see how my wife handles this batch of goodies. So, without further ado, let’s get started with the first item:

Our first item up for bid (not really, unless you wanna’ make a really generous offer) is a “Magical Money Compressing Coin Bank” straight from that that great bastion of inexpensive foreign goods dealextreme.com. That said, this is actually a pretty fun little toy. You insert a coin into the top of the box, and then you see it drop down and “shrink” using smoke and mirrors (well, maybe not smoke). Here’s a youtube video showing how it works.

Stuff From My Folks’ Basement, Episode Two

Here we go again, everyone. I’ve brought back another batch of goodies from my folks’ place. For those of you joining us for the first time, and wondering if you’ve stumbled across the blog of a lunatic, check out the previous part to this little series of posts to get caught up.

The Main Course: Again, I’ve tried to focus on somewhat less wacky stuff such as books to avoid gaining the ire of my wife. (Don’t worry though, the really weird/fun stuff’s coming down the pipeline soon enough.)

Terry Brooks’ Shannara series. Or, rather, the first two books from it. Brooks was the second ‘real’ fantasy author I ever read waaay back in high school. I remember these being a fun read, thought the world did seem a bit bleak at times. Not a criticism, but a personal preference for me. Now, I know I’ve got some more of these Shannara books tucked away somewhere else. Expect them to show up in a future episode (barring my wife putting a stop to this, of course). Continue reading

Paying my Idiot Tax

Just a quick (and silly) update.

Stopped for gas on the way home from work and picked up one of these:

I could win $2,000 a week for life! No more having to write books! Just kidding, folks. In the unlikely event that I win the lottery, scratch card, or an unknown rich uncle dies (or aunt, I don’t discriminate), I promise you that I’ll still be writing the Artifice series. Well, let’s start scratching this baby and see if I just wasted four dollars. The card’s divided into five main games, plus a little bonus game. We need to match three of a kind on each of the main games. Let’s scratch off number one and see how we do:

Boo.One down and four to go. Let’s see if the next one’s any better: Continue reading
