First, let me apologize for the lack of recent updates.
Secondly, I’ve just received the final revision back from my editor, and am giving it one last once-over tonight and tomorrow. Ideally, I’d prefer to let it sit for a week, then give it one last read to see if I missed anything. However, I know you guys have been waiting a long time for this.
To that end, sometime tomorrow evening or Monday, I’ll start the process of publishing the book online.
Also, because Amazon doesn’t directly allow you to list a ‘free’ book, I’ll be uploading it to the other retailers first. Then, once it’s listed on those sites, I’ll upload to Amazon and try to have them match the price as quickly as possible. I’d rather not have to do that, as I know a lot of you would prefer to have Amazon download the book directly to your Kindle. However, I’d much rather not have you folks end up actually paying for the book by accident. Here’s the sequence of events regarding what’s going to happen, just so everyone’s on the same page:
- Smashwords.com: Book will be available here immediately in all formats.
- Google Play: Should be up almost immediately. Possibly a delay of a day or two.
- Apple, Kobo, B&N: Possibly a delay of up to a week.
- Amazon: Will not be available until it’s already been posted on Apple and B&N. Possibly a delay of up to a few days after that for it to be pricematched to free.
Again, thanks for joining me on this ride, folks. I hope you enjoy Episode Two.
The third one ducks.
Sorry about that.
Just a quick update on Episode Two. It looks like my editor will be able to have a look at it close to the end of the month. Hopefully, she’ll be able to do it sooner, but I’m not going to rush her (after all, she is working for free).
The good new is that this gives me some time to rework Episode Two a bit. I’ll see about expanding the narrative in some sections, and maybe moving plot points to or from the next episode, if needed.
Thanks for the great reviews on all the different sites so far. I really do appreciate them. I’m honestly touched by the fact that no one’s given me anything below a four star rating so far. I really didn’t expect that, and I am grateful. I’ll absolutely try to make sure that Episode Two meets the standards that you folks expect.
(Now, hopefully, I didn’t just jinx myself…)
Also, thanks to the person that pointed out several typos in Episode One. I’ll be uploading a revised version to all distribution sites shortly. Remember, folks, I’m sure that most (if not all) authors would appreciate hearing about stuff like that. We can’t correct our mistakes if we never know about them. After all, we’re only human. 🙂 Plus, it does help future readers to enjoy a more polished product, and you’ll get a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
First off, I do need to apologize for the sparse updates. I’ll try to make more time to keep you guys in the loop (especially regarding Artifice: Episode Two).
Which leads into the next point. Another apology is in order, as Episode Two won’t be released this month. My editor (who is doing this for free, so go easy on her :)) is just ending her maternity leave at the end of this month, and her time right now is dedicated to dealing with that, getting ready to go back to work, and planning a first birthday party. To that end, I’m going to not bug her to read my book for another few weeks. Realistically, I don’t expect Episode Two to be available for download until close to the end of April. Again, apologies to everyone. This was just the result of bad planning/timing.
Also, another bit of strange/bad news. It looks like Amazon.co.uk has reverted Episode One back into a paid book for some reason. I’m currently trying to get it to go free again.
Again, I’ll try to post updates more frequently. Also, as compensation, I’ll see about posting the first few pages from the working copy of Episode Two as a teaser sample.
… but, not to worry, I’m still alive.
Sorry for the lack of posts recently, but the beginning of the year is pretty hectic at my day job. Suffice to say, I’m glad January’s over and done with.
Just wanted to thank everyone. The book recently went free at Amazon.com (not .ca, co.uk, etc as yet, but working on it) and I’m currently ranked #85 in Free Epic Fantasy. I’m honestly stunned, but in a good way.
This means I can start promoting in earnest at places such as Kindleboards. This also means I need to get in gear to finish Artifice: Episode Two. I’ve not finished as much as I’d like, but we’re still on track for a March release.
I’ll do a quick update sometime soon with more details.
Thanks again, everyone!
Artifice: Episode One has been downloaded 86 times within the last two days! Not Neil Gaiman numbers, by any means, but it’s exciting to watch that counter increase. Well… not that exciting, but you know what I mean.
Also, I’ve added a Google Ads thingy further down the page at the side. It’s a blank spot right now, but the Google Adwords page says that advertisements will start within a few days.
Well, this is the update I been waiting to write for quite a while now.
Artifice: Episode One was uploaded last night to Smashwords.com, and is available for free!
It’s been a long road so far, but I’m hopefully just setting out. Now that I’ve realized how to spot some of the bumps in the road, it should be a smoother ride for Episode Two.
Just to clarify, as soon as the Smashwords team is finished vetting the book, it should also be available on the following sites:
- Barnes & Noble
- Apple iBookstore
- Page Foundry
- Baker-Taylor’s Blio
- Baker-Taylor’s Axis360
It’ll also be available on Amazon, once it’s been listed on one of those.
Maps of the regions in the novel will also be uploaded in short order. With luck, it should be a part of the next Weekly Update.
I’m currently compiling a list of places where I can plug my book (for free). If anyone has any suggestions, please leave a comment. Once it’s been listed on all the major outlets, I’ll start an ‘official’ advertising campaign.
If you’ve stumbled across this page after finding my book on Smashwords, you have my sincere thanks. I know there are many other books out there to be read, and I’m glad you chose mine. 🙂
[Late Edit: A few friends have suggested, since I won’t be taking any payment for either of the first two episodes, to use a Paypal ‘donation’ thingy in the meantime. I’ll admit, I’m a bit hesitant about it, but it’s now been placed in the sidebar. Hopefully, it doesn’t look too tacky…]
Smashwords auto-vetter reported no issues with the upload, and it’s now available for download through Smashwords.com!
Hopefully, the lineup for Premium Catalog (B&N, Kobo, etc.) vetting isn’t too long. With any luck, it should be up before Christmas on those sites.
Immediately after that, I’ll put it on Amazon.
Now for a drink…
